Rewrite Your Story: The Power of Reframing
"I'm just lazy and unmotivated. All I want to do after work is lie down on the couch and watch Youtube"
"I'm too far down my career path to make a major change now. It's just not practical."
"I’m just not the lucky one who could get the important projects."
Do any of these sound familiar? They feel like facts, don't they? Like undeniable truths that define the boundaries of our lives. But what if they aren't? What if these limitations are not set in stone, but are part of a story you are telling yourself? A story that has become so familiar it feels like reality.
The most incredible thing about a story is that it can be changed. You are the author of your own life story. You have the ability to pick up the pen at any moment and consciously rewrite your narrative, shifting from a tale of limitation to one of empowerment and new possibilities.
How to Rewrite Your Narrative
The journey from your "Old Story" to your "New Story" is a transformative process. Here’s how you can start:
Acknowledge Your "Old Story": The first step is to become aware of the narrative that's currently running your career. What are the recurring themes? What role do you play in this story? Don't judge it; simply notice it.
Connect with your values: To write a compelling "New Story," you need to anchor yourself." Ask yourself:
What are my core values?
What brings me a sense of fulfillment?
What impact do I want to have in my career?
Craft Your "New Story": Now, it's time to write. Imagine yourself in the future, having achieved your career aspirations. Tell the story of how you got there, as if it has already happened. Be descriptive and embody the feeling of this new reality. Consider these prompts:
What challenges did you overcome?
What strengths did you discover?
What does your ideal workday look like?
